What is the
National Standards Body?

The National Standards Body (ONN) was created as a legal entity on July 29, 2005 to carry out voluntary standardization activities, by creating, reviewing, updating, issuing and withdrawing Mexican standards in all areas related to iron and steel industry and to participate in national and international standardization activities. Its performance is governed by law, based on the Metrology and Standardization Federal Law and its Regulation. Standardization work is carried out by the Steel Industry National Standardization Technical Committee (COTENNIS) which contributes to standardization policy and coordinates CANACERO’s activities on the subject.

Objetives

To develop the Mexican standards used in the manufacture and consumption of iron and steel products, which have been agreed upon by all sectors. To have updated regulations acting as guidelines for developing products, processes, test methods and other iron and steel-related activities. To participate in national and international standardization for the development of new technologies.

Mission

To create and update the Mexican standards for the iron and steel industry, being committed to all actors that take part in the process of drafting the regulations without excluding any stakeholder, always providing quality services based on respect, teamwork, ethics and compliance with the legal framework.

Vision

To be the National Standardization Body for the iron and steel industry, serving as benchmark, meeting effectively and efficiently the requirements of manufacturers and consumers of iron and steel products, and developing standards that foster iron and steel industry technology in benefit of our sector and society.
